Guest WiFi terms
Version hw-landing-guest-2026-10-v1 · October 2026
These terms apply when you connect to guest WiFi through a Hotwireless Guest sign-in page: the page that asks for your details, or only for you to accept the terms, before you go online. By ticking "I accept the guest WiFi terms" you agree to them.
Who runs this WiFi
Hotspot & Wifi Specialists (Pty) Ltd t/a Hotwireless (registration number 2016/437869/07) runs this WiFi together with the venue you are at. Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), Hotwireless and the venue are both responsible for the details you give on the sign-in page.
What we ask for, and why
- Your name, email address and cell number, and the choices you make on the page (the terms tick and the optional marketing tick).
- Your device's network address, which your phone or laptop sends when it joins the WiFi.
We use these to give you WiFi access, to keep the network safe, to keep the venue's guest record, and to send you news and offers only if you tick that box.
On pages that ask for them, we can't connect you without them.
How long we keep them
We keep your name, email address, cell number and choices for 90 days, then delete them.
Connection records (your device's network address, times and data used) are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted; your name, email and cell are deleted after 90 days.
Deleted details can remain in our backups for up to 14 days before they are overwritten.
Venues where you only accept the terms
At some venues you connect by ticking the terms only. We don't ask for your name, email or cell number there. To stop misuse and keep the WiFi running, Hotwireless and the venue keep your device's network address and connection times for up to 12 months, then delete them. Hotwireless and the venue are both responsible for this information under POPIA. The rights and contact details under 'Your rights' below apply.
News and offers
The marketing tick is optional. If you tick it, Hotwireless and the venue may send you news and offers by email, SMS or WhatsApp. You can unsubscribe at any time, by using the unsubscribe option in a message or by emailing [email protected]. If you do not tick it, we will not send you marketing.
Using the WiFi
- Use the WiFi lawfully. Do not use it to harm others, to break into other systems, or in a way that stops other guests from using it.
- Free WiFi is limited in time, and a device can use it once a day. Vouchers give the access printed on them.
- We may end a session that misuses the network.
- We do our best to keep the WiFi running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or reach a particular speed.
- Guest WiFi is a shared network. Use secure (https) websites and apps for anything private.
- The venue's own house rules also apply while you are there.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete your details, object to how we use them, or withdraw your consent at any time. Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
Our full privacy notice explains where your details are stored and who helps us process them.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms, we will post the new version here with a new version number. The version you agreed to is recorded with your sign-up.
