How Much Does Guest WiFi Cost in South Africa?
What a café, restaurant or guest house pays for guest WiFi: the monthly package, extra devices, the once-off router, and why the internet line is separate.
If you run a café, a restaurant or a guest house, guest WiFi comes with three costs. There is a monthly fee for the managed service, a once-off cost for the equipment, and the internet line itself. Only the first two come from us.
Here is each one in plain words, with our current prices. Every price below is per location, per month, ex VAT, unless it says once-off.
First: no package includes the internet line
This is the part people most often assume, so we say it up front. No package includes the internet line. The venue supplies the connection, whether that is fibre, LTE or whatever it already runs, and pays for it on its own ISP account.
Our monthly fee pays for us to run and look after your guest WiFi: the branded login page, the access rules, consent at sign-in, the reporting and our support.
We run on your internet connection: all we need is a free network port, a power socket and a spot with good signal to guests. ISP charges are not included.
So if you already have fibre for the till and the card machine, you keep that account and keep paying your ISP. Guests use the same line, but on their own network, kept separate from the one your business runs on.
The monthly fee: three packages
Each package does everything the one before it does, and adds something. Pick the one that matches what you want the WiFi to do for you.
Basic
Your branded WiFi front door. Guests join the WiFi, see a login page with your logo, colours and wording, accept your terms of use, and are online in one tap. Nobody is asked for their details.
You set time and bandwidth limits, so one guest streaming all afternoon does not slow things down for everyone else.
R399 per month.
Basic + Data Collection
Everything in Basic, plus a guest list you can actually use. Before going online, guests give their name, email and cell number. POPIA consent is captured at the moment they hand those details over.
The list is yours, and you can export it. This is the package for a venue that wants to stay in touch with the guests who said yes.
R599 per month.
Basic + Data + Guest Insights
Everything in Basic + Data Collection, plus the numbers behind your WiFi. You see connections and visitor counts by day, week and month, new versus returning guests, your busiest days and hours, and how long guests stay connected.
It suits the owner who wants to know who comes back, not just how many came. It is also the only package that takes the Advertising and Vouchers add-ons, covered further down.
R799 per month.
The three side by side
| Package | Per location, per month, ex VAT | WiFi devices |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | R399 | 1 WiFi device managed; each extra router or access point +R50 a month. |
| Basic + Data Collection | R599 | 1 WiFi device managed; each extra router or access point +R100 a month. |
| Basic + Data + Guest Insights | R799 | 1 WiFi device managed; each extra router or access point +R150 a month. |
Every package is a fixed monthly fee, with no usage-based costs. Support from our people runs Monday to Friday, 08:00–17:00 SAST.
Extra WiFi devices
A WiFi device is a router or access point we supply or manage. Bigger venues need more of them to reach every guest.Every package price covers 1 WiFi device managed. Each extra router or access point is its own line on the bill, and the amount depends on the package:
- Basic: each extra router or access point +R50 a month
- Basic + Data Collection: each extra router or access point +R100 a month
- Basic + Data + Guest Insights: each extra router or access point +R150 a month
A one-room café may be covered by the router on its own. A guest house with rooms on two floors, a garden and a separate cottage will usually need more devices to reach every guest. If you already have access points and we take over managing them, they count as WiFi devices too.
The once-off cost: hardware
Hardware is bought once, separately. It is not part of the monthly fee.
From R1,549 once-off, ex VAT, for one router, set up on our bench with your branding and brought live at your venue.
Bigger venues that need access points and cabling are quoted per site. A site survey is available on request, and it is quoted too. It covers a visit, a look at coverage, an equipment recommendation and a costed quote.
Add-ons, on the Guest Insights package only
Two add-ons can be added to the Basic + Data + Guest Insights package (R799) only. They cannot be added to Basic or to Basic + Data Collection.
- Advertising: R199 per location per month. A tap-to-connect advert on your login page, or a short video before the login box. Sell the space to a local advertiser, or run your own specials.
- Vouchers: R6.50 per voucher, min. 100. Voucher codes on the login page. You set and collect the price your guests pay. If you want guests to pay for sessions instead, at prices you set, our set-up for paid access is quoted per venue.
You only need either one if selling access or advertising space makes sense for your venue.
Four questions that set your price
- Do you already have an internet line? You keep it, and you keep paying your ISP for it.
- What do you want from the WiFi? A branded front door (Basic), a guest list (Data Collection), or the numbers as well (Guest Insights).
- How many WiFi devices does it take to reach every guest? A single room may need only one. Rooms spread across floors or buildings need more.
- Do you want to sell vouchers or advertising? Only on the Guest Insights package.
Each answer is its own line, so you can see exactly what you are paying for and why.
